halloween poem

Hello readers. Welcome back to my blog.

Today in wananga as a halloween-themed activity we made halloween poems. Mine isn't the best but it was just a short activity so I figured why not make the poem short.

Here is my poem and I hope you enjoy reading it I guess.

Science T4 - Blind Taste Testing

 Aim:

I want to find out if food tastes differently when you can't see or smell.

Research:

Method:

Equipment

Hands

Blindfold (OR SCARF)

mystery food

Instructions

1. Get your equipment

 2. Wash your hands.

3. Put on your blindfold.

4. Put your hand out for food

5. Pinch your nose with the other hand.

6. Eat the food and chew it.

7. Guess what the food is.

8. Release your nose and taste the food.

9. Where does the food react on your tongue?

Results:

Food #1. I think it was sugar because it felt like there were a lot of small sugar pieces.

Food #2. It was 100% salt. There was no difference when my nose was pinched and unpinched.

Food #3. It felt and tasted like baking powder.

Food #4. It was definitely citric acid.

Food #5. It was a sour lolly. It felt very squishy, and I could slightly taste the citric acid in my mouth.

Food #6. It was half a burger ring. It was very crunchy and jagged.

Food #7.  Dry Marshmallow. It felt quite dry and hard.

Food #8. 100% apple slice.

Food #9. It was a gummy bear. 2nd favorite lolly! :D

Food #10. It was a pear.

Food #11. IT'S DAIRY MILK CHOCOLATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Food #12 (final food) EW ITS LEMON EW EW EW EWWWWWWWWWW (I spat it out into the trash)

Discussion

Is there a difference between blocked and unblocked nose taste?

Yes, because when your nose is blocked it cuts off taste buds that are in your nasal cavities, and it also kills your sense of smell. You therefore cannot determine the food that easily.

P.E T4 - Gymnastics

Over the past couple weeks in P.E we have been doing gymnastics with Mr Hilliard. It has been fairly fun, and I learned to do a lot. We had a good amount of equipment to work with, and I'm going to go over the list of equipment that we have learnt to do.

Mini Tramp

Horizontal Bar

Trampoline

Beam

Parallel Bars

Floor

I think out of these, my favourite two were the Mini Tramp and the Trampoline. They were both very fun to do, and it was a good challenge to learn how to rotate forwards nearly all the way. On the trampoline, it was also a good challenge to land a front flip which I could do before but not a lot of the time. I also liked the beam, because I learnt how to jog on it, and walk across it with my eyes closed. The other people in my group can't do it that well. I guess I'm off to the Olympics ;)

I have gone from thinking gymnastics was bad to it being one of the best P.E subjects I've done all year just because of the fun variety of the equipment that I conquered and because of the amount of skills I have learnt to exhibit when doing the different things.

We also had a document to tick off and highlight all the stuff we learnt. The stuff that is ticked is the stuff that I could already do, and the stuff that is highlighted is the stuff that I learnt to do.

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog and I'll see you in the next one.

art term 4 - henri rousseau

Today in art term 4 we started studying about Henri Rousseau.

Henri was a world-famous painter who lived in France. He gradually became more and more popular as his paintings improved. We watched a 6-minute video about him twice, second time was to take notes of words we don't know. Anyways, more about Henri.

He created cool paintings every year to show them off at the yearly exhibition. Most of the time, the other artists mocked him. But, after a while, there was one time that actually a lot of people loved it and credited him, and from there, he lived happily as other artists credited his works of art. Once, the man himself, Pablo Picasso threw a banquet for him.

After that, Henri lived a quiet live until his death in 1910. Henri died after he got gangrene in his leg.

Hot Chilli - Science T4

 Aim:

I want to find out the best way to cool down your tongue after eating hot chilli.

Method:

Equipment

  • Hot Chilli Sauce
  • Popsicle Stick
  • Drinks - Soda, Water, Milk
  • Timer
Instructions

1. Get your equipment ready.. obviously.
2. Get a drop of hot saucy on your Popsicle stick.
3. Lick the Hot Chilli sauce.
4. Optional - swirl the sauce around your mouth.
5. Start the timer.
6. After two minutes, drink your soda, milk or water.
7. After five minutes, how hot is your mouth?
8. Repeat the experiment but with a different drink.

Results:

The Carolina Reaper lives up to its name.

After the first chug of water and the first dose of the death, I rated it a 10 for burning.

After the second time, I scored it a 10.

After the third time, with coke, I scored it a 9.5.

After the fourth time, with milk, I scored it a 0.5.

Discussion

Why does chilli burn your mouth?
The alkaline (oil based molecules) triggers the temp sensitive pain receptors in your mouth which then sends a message to your brain that is basically screaming "IT HURTS, IT HURTS!!".
Why did the milk reduce the burn?
Milk hosts a handy protein called casein, which helps dissipate the alkaline in the chilli, thus killing off the taste quickly.

Hello everyone. Welcome back to my very boring blog.

Today in wananga we had to set our goals for the final term of the year, pretty straightforward task.

Here's my work because I can't be bothered writing.. as usual.
