Hello there, come to see the new disney movie? Well, you're in the right place.
This term in Hurumanu 3, we have been doing a unit called Shaping Up. This unit was about geometry and shapes, and we learnt a lot. It was very difficult.
First, we started learning about different types of lines. Our first activity of the term was drawing a matariki star in our math books. It was fun, and I enjoyed drawing the lines to the precise spot I wanted them to be.
Next, we started learning about polygons. We read something on what they are and answered 10 questions about them. It was also fun, literally failing stuff that I thought was correct and they dying of laughter, and then after we did all that we did a polygon investigator activity where you had to draw random lines across the paper and then investigate to see whether any of them were polygons.
Then, we started learning about different angles and learnt about stuff like parallel lines, intersecting lines, points, rays, and normal lines. Like hell we didn't already know what a normal line was.
After that, we started learning about reflection, rotation and translation. No, I'm not talking about the rotation in a lowering mesocyclone convective system with a base wall cloud. I'm talking about the rotation of shapes. It started becoming more difficult here.
THEN, we started learning about lines of symmetry, and this was probably the last of the easy activities. At least it's what it felt like.
After THAT, we started learning about nets, and we did 2 kahoots for general knowledge. We did an activity where we had to connect the lines to the correct nets and shapes.
We learned about different cubes and stuff, and did a fun activity where we had to create different shapes with cubes.
Finally, we learnt about directions in the form of a map. I didn't find this fun for some reason, but a lot of other people did. It was still enjoyable to work everything out.
