Emperor Penguins!

 Emperor Penguins!

This week in reading my group has been learning about penguins, but specifically the Emperor Penguin. On Monday, we read a chapter of a school journal called Fantastic Penguins, and we did a KWL on penguins. Yesterday (Wednesday 2nd December) we started doing a DLO on Emperor Penguins, and mine was a google slideshow containing different parts of info on them. Today, we are finishing and blogging our DLO, which is where I am now. After that, we have to complete the learn part of our KWL, and do a Penguin origami. I'm quite looking forward to that.

(If the slide doesn't load I´m sorry lol)

Habitat destruction

For inquiry this term I did endangered animals, and part of that was habitat destruction. Habitat destruction is when a forest, for example, can no longer go back to the way it once was. We made a DLO about it, and here is mine.

Possums and the Dangers They Pose to the country

Today in reading my group we studied and read about possums. After we did that, we created our own DLOs and then..yeah. I don't really know if I should say anything, because my DLO will speak for me.

Lemon Sugar Scrub! EDIBLE!

Lemon Sugar Scrub! :D

Yesterday in reading my group made Lemon Sugar Scrub, which was also edible. First, we got into groups. My group was me, Lucas, Cole And Lennox. Second, we had to get a cheese grater and zest the lemon, while one person measured the sugar. That step was pretty easy, but once you had zested all the lemon skin you had to stop before you went into the inside part of the lemon. Next, we put all the sugar Lennox and Lucas had measured and all the lemon me and Cole had zested into a bowl. After we did that, we stirred it all together, which took a while. Then we were practically done. We had also bought our own containers, and we put our share in them.

Persuasive Writing

So, I was rolling around in my drafts, and came across one written not too long ago. Less then a month. So, here it is! :D

This week we have been writing Persuasive texts. Mine was about how Weekends Should be 3 days long. To be honest, the whole thing was pretty easy, except for the part that I lost my 1st plan, and had to rewrite the whole thing again. At least I remembered most of it. Not all of it though D:

Term 3 Technology

 TERM 3 TECHNOLOGY

For technology this term we got into groups (Me, Lucas S and Logan) and started to make "Our own muesli bar company". Our company is called Triple J. Why, do you ask? Well, all our middle names start with J. Hey, Lucas even thought of making our own fake website. (😛) And he did! *NOTE - IT ISN'T REAL* We pretended we had a really big company and we made muesli bars. Well, the muesli bar part is real.....

Term 3 Calendar Art!

This term in Punui O Toka we have been doing calendar art. I was in the dot art group, and it was very fun. I'll explain how it went down. First, you had a sheet of paper with some circles already on it and you had to color them by putting your cotton bud(s) in some paint and dab it on.

Once we did that, we moved onto our plan the next week and had to draw our lines indicating where the dots would be. Once we did that, we had a piece of black paper and copied your plan, drawing in pencil where your dots were going to be, yet again.

When we were done, we had to do basically the same thing we did with our first draft, put the cotton buds in the paint (lightly!) and then dab it on the paper over our lines. It was easy and hard at the same time, you had to be very patient and precise. What I found easy was putting the paint perfectly on the lines. What I found hard was being patient and how the cotton bud you were using always left a faded spot in the middle after a few times. As shown below.

Have a happy holiday!

Army Band :D

Yesterday the whole school went to the hall and listened to the New Zealand Army Band! Before they came everyone thought they would come in and shoot us with Remington 870's and MD Falcon Fighter Jets. (LOL) But, once we all went in and saw them, our minds COMPLETELY changed. Their music was so good! Trumpets, hose instruments, drums, it was all so good. We sang something, let it go (NOOO!) Savage love and something else.

Monday P.E (OOF)

This morning all the year 6's in the class went to P.E in the hall, and it might be the worst P.E that we've ever done. As I'm writing this I have a really bad headache, probably the worst I've ever had. I'm screaming inside. Anyway, we did relays, and the three relays we did were bear crawls (Thank God I didn't have to do it because the teachers stopped it early), frog walks and something else I ALREADY can't remember. But all of it was so hard, you don´t even want to know about it. But yeah, I can´t find the video, and I don´t have anything else to say, so bye.

Writing: Similes

Today in our writing mini lesson, we had to fill out some boxes with similes. Now, you probably know what similes are, but if you don´t, I´ll refresh your memory.
A simile is describing something/someone as if or like they are something/someone else. It can NOT be a simile if it does not have as or like in the sentence.
Example- like: The lightning appeared so quick it was like it teleported.
Example- as: The sun shone as if it was a pot of gold.
Now, here´s mine. Hope you like it :D

Wonder me & Zoos are *NOT* cruel

In reading, after the initial activity in my debate group (Zoos Are Cruel), which was to state your opinion about whether zoos WERE cruel or not (NO they are not!), we got to go onto a wonder website and create your self. Quick note - you only see one eye, you only got one eye! Anyway here are them both.

Writing: Info Reports

For the last week in writing Miss McLeod´s group we have been writing information reports. Mine was about the Evolution of TV, and I wrote probably the most in my class. Totally didn't get help from google. (I mean, with knowing the appearance and all that stuff) But yeah, I accidentally published it too small, and lets just say my Chromebook goes into a fit when I insert it here.
Hope you enjoyed reading this blog :)

Private to personal information

Today in Cybersmart, we did an activity called "Make it personal". There was one side of the document we made a copy of that was private info, and we had to switch it to personal on the green side of the document. I whizzed through it in a matter of minutes, and was the first one in my class to get a ticket for actually using full stops. (LOL) It was pretty easy for me, because I used to do things like that all the time at my old school. If you're reading this, have a good day, and bye!

Quality Blog Comment Comic

For the past week in Mrs Jones' writing group, we have been making a comic on how to write Quality Blog Comments. It was pretty fun! My comic is nine panels long, and I don't know, but mine might just be the best in the class.... for some reason it won't let me put it on here, but it was pretty good. If you know how to successfully download and insert a comic onto a blog, PLEASE tell me!!

A Recipe Ratio!

Yesterday in Chess group for math we had a talk problem using not times tables, but RATIOS and PROPORTIONS. We had to half, double, and multiply to make the amounts of pancakes we had to ¨make¨. We figured it out in our talk groups (my talk group is me, Ella-Pearl and Vernon.) And trust me, it wasn´t actually too hard!

Reading - Compare and Contrast

Today in reading my group (J.K Rowling) were doing a Maui Compare and Contrast activity. It is as simple as it sounds, but not really. I had a bit of trouble trying to remember/rule out differences of the two stories I compared (Hawaiian and Society Islands). Anyway, here it is.

Pick a path story

Since last Monday, we have been working on Pick A Path stories in Mrs Jones' writing group. Mine was about a Diamond Heist, and trust me, it's pretty dang crazy...! Do you want to play it? Hope so! Here it is, hope you enjoy :D

Another 2019 blog that never got published

So, I found another blog from last year that I hadn't released, so here you go...

Today at school we did Athletics. I was in the Year 5 boys group, so first i went to discus, where I didn't go so well, second we did long distance, where we had to do 5 laps. I think I came 10th, I don't exactly know. Third we had long jump, where my first jump was garbage. Second jump however, I did pretty good. Then we had morning tea (YASSS)...

After morning tea we had fun relays, so first we had the three legged race. We had to pick a buddy - mine was Vernon. We had to tie a rope around one of each person's feet and have a race with other teams. After we had bear crawl, where my right arm bones LITERALLY CUT IN A MILLION PIECES (Yeuch).

Making GIF's

This morning in Digital Citizenship we made GIF's (graphic interchange format). Our home room did ours off a Journey To School slideshow we made in February. I can't exactly show the direct GIF because I don't know how, but I can still show you the original slideshow. By the way, before you question the end, it was just something I put in to make it more interesting and funny. If I remembered how to make the hard stuff, I would tell you, but sadly I can't.            On with the slideshow!

Balance Pie Chart

Yesterday in Punui-O-Toka Mrs Jones' homeroom we did a balance pie chart. We had to make a pie chart, and our "Scores Of Life" had to be EXACTLY 100. Here's mine.
*PS - I LOVE eating as you can tell lol*

:D

If you have any suggestions on what I could do (Because I do lots in my spare time) just say so in the comments.

Peace out..

The last Feel Good Friday...

For the last Feel Good Friday activity, we did an activity that was quite fun. It was sort of like the gratitude flower I did a blog on about a week ago, but this was a bit different. Basically in was in its own rows. I can´t even explain it properly, so I will just  cut to the chase. The 1st row was you had to put an idea for a way to connect, the 2nd row you had to put an idea for a way to give and so on.

Why do bees sting?

In class with Miss Williamson today, we tried to figure out something. WHY do bees sting?? Well, we went onto Wonderopolis, and found out the answer. Bees sting to protect themselves or their hive. But there is a down side for the bees when they sting. When they sting, most of the time other parts of their body go with it. Imagine half a bee in your skin! In most cases when that happens, the bee has sustained a massive injury, so it dies shortly after. Another thing i found out was, what is the name of the venom they inject with the barbed stinger? Apitoxin. The stinger injects it into the host for about ten minutes or until it is removed.

Whatś this wednesday

Today for what´s this wednesday, we looked at something called PIC-LITS. It was very very fun. You could choose a photo and drag words into it, or put your own words into it. I chose an eagle photo, and put some eagle facts into it. It was quite easy. Here´s a photo of it! (sorry this was short, I just didnt have much time)

Te Reo Tuesday week 2?

Today for Te Reo Tuesday week 2? 3? Idk... We were doing just a straightforward match activity. I don´t really know how to explain it, but basically you had to match the right word to its picture. It was kind of hard in a way that is kind of hard to describe. I´m not even going to try describe it. But then again, it was easy, because if you have experience, it just gets easy. Anyway...

LIGHTS!

CAMERAS!

ACTION!

Feel good friday

Today in class, we did a pretty cool activity. We had to make our own gratitude flowers! I really liked it because I had done lots of stuff like this in the past. Even though I don´t think we had to decorate them, I just put a few stars on the side of the screen anyway and changed up the colors a little bit. Anyway, I don´t know what else to really say, so here you go!

Fake News, Fake Foods! (MEant to be published in 2019)

So, I was looking around on my blog, and I came across a draft that I had never published, and thought you might like to see some work that I did last year. So, here it is!
Over the past two weeks in Cybersmart we looked at "Fake news". WEEK 1: There was a website we had to look at on  and it was about something called "Tree octopuses". It showed sightings of Tree Octopuses in trees and stuff like that. Then, the teacher searched Tree Octopus, and (DUN DUN DUN) THEY WERE INTERNET HOAXES!!! Everyone was stunned by that one fact.
WEEK 2: Today in cybersmart we looked at "Fake Foods" this time. The first photo was showing a turkey. I wanted to eat a quadrillion of them until i looked at the side notes. They are fake, the turkey is made out of real turkey, but you use SUPER GLUE to hide teared skin and they used PAINT!(EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!) And then there was more......

Think about it thursday

Yesterday in class, we did some sort of research, trying to find out: Can any animals live forever?Well, I googled it up, and the answer is yes, there is a type of jellyfish that can live forever called Turritopsis dohrnii. Also known as the Immortal Jellyfish, this creature goes through a type of Metamorphosis that I can´t remember the name of, but basically it can go back from being an adult jellyfish to a polyp. Pretty cool, right? One thing I wanted to know though, is that if a human had the jellyfish´s DNA, would we turn back into a baby or a polyp? Something even scientists don´t know yet!

Tyler Re's blog post about leaves

Today in lockdown inquiry/ other curriculum with Miss Williamson we were trying to figure out why leaves change color. I actually found it quite fun, but a little bit hard in a way for me, because we were also supposed to add a picture of a leaf, but all my leaves were tiny and scrunched, so bad luck for me. Anyway, here's my thoughts about leaves and why they change color!

24/4/20 maths

Today in Miss McLeod's math group, we were learning to tell the time again, but this time, it was different. We were telling the time on digital clocks! It wasn't too challenging either, which I found awesome, because my brain never gets up and running at the moment. There was a task where you had to put the correct time in the box below the clock, a task that was the exact same except you had to put forty to six, five to seven, that sort of thing.... Then there was a task that was just downright amazing. You had to match the clocks to the time that they were showing with lines that were already placed down for us. Its kind of complicated to explain, so I will just show you all of it.

21/4/20 Maths

Today in Miss McLeod´s maths, we were learning about time. The 1st thing we had to do was make a copy of the slideshow we were about to do. After that, you just had to finish the slideshow, make sure you got all of it right, then you were done. I found it nice and easy, which was great! I didn´t really find anything challenging, but anyways, here´s the slideshow. Hope youre all doing grand!

Dirt Oval TQ

Hey everyone.
Today and yesterday, I have been working on a really really cool drawing.
This particular car in the photo is called a TQ Midget. They are absolute beasts on the Dirt Oval tracks they race on. This car is real, I just colored it a bit differently to the real life version.
This car is the 88c Jeremy Webb, who races at Christchurch´s open wheel speedway.
The speedway´s full name is Racecourse Motorlodge & Motel Ruapuna Speedway. It is in Prebbleton on Hasketts Rd, right next to the Ruapuna V8 Road course. It is very very popular in the speedway season (Early November - Early April) and usually maxes out at about 900 people minimum per Race Meeting. The last time I went to the speedway was 7th December 2019 to watch the Sprint Car Grand Slam and the Southern Midget Series.
Anyway, here is a picture of the 88c TQ Drawing. IT´S A LOT BETTER IN THE ACTUAL DRAWING THAN IN THE PHOTO. or at least the lighting is. I will have another blog up by sunday of another Dirt Oval Race Car. If you want to see this particular car in action irl, The 88c Is in Group 2. It´s shown in the second race, fifth race, eighth race, eleventh race (Pole Shuffle) and the Twelfth and final race (A Main)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWOGbv70gIo

Finally, something to celebrate

Hi everyone, sorry for not being too active online at the moment, because I think I may have found my lock down groove.
So, It´s Easter, and it feels JUST LIKE IT DID LAST YEAR.
I say that, because last Easter I was stuck in the emergency room with tonsillitis, it was horrible. I mean it.
Anyways, happy Easter all!

The art of being bored

It´s called the art of being bored, totally legit.

Hi everyone, I´m back. Yes, me. Over the time since I posted my last blog (Click here, please comment too!) I have gotten a lot better over this whole situation since I found out WITHOUT a test that I don´t have the corona virus. YAY! I have a problem, though, and you probably have the same issue. You saw the title, right? Yeah, The art of being bored. That´s my problem. I´m getting SO BORED, that I think I´m losing myself. At this point, I´m just relying on YouTube videos. Well.. uh... you can tell, right?

                                                                                                              Me watching NASCAR Heat 4.

PLEASE READ :)

So, If you wanted to know why I haven´t been at school lately, I am currently in Self- Isolation due to COVID-19. I recently came back from the time of my life on the Gold Coast, Australia on Saturday 15th of March, landing at 11:54pm. I went back to school on Monday, was at school on Tuesday as well, but Wednesday was my final day, and I didn't even know until I got home from school at around 3:10pm. I said ¨Hi¨ to my mum, and while she usually says ¨Hi¨ back in a very happy tone, she said it very solemnly, so I could tell she was in a very deep thinking state. About a minute later after I had gotten dressed into my own clothes and got onto my phone, she said ¨I´ve been thinking about taking you out of school to go into Self- Isolation. I replied ¨Nooooooooooooooooo............... Please... no...¨
And that´s where I am today. At home, bored out of my brain. That´s my story. If you want to share anything to me, I´m sure one of my friends will help. This is me with my 1 and a half year old puppy, Atlas. He is my world right now.

Term 1 Week 9 Maths

For this week in math, we had to do a brain teaser. The brain teaser itself was pretty easy, because of how it says: The frog has fallen into a pit that is 30 meters deep.
Each day, the frog climbs 3 meters, but falls back 2 meters at night.
How many days does it take for him to escape?
30. I say 30 because it jumps 3 meters in the daytime, but falls back 2 meters at night, therefore the next day he would be 1 meter up. Then you repeat the strategy. I hope I helped you with your math if you are in Miss McLeod's math group.

(Yes, I am currently working from home, but I still do blogs, so check my blog page often! I usually do a blog everyday from now)

suffix posters (sorry about it being short...)

Over the past week or two, (How am I supposed to know, I was away for a week!!) Miss McClelland's phonics group have being doing suffix posters. Suffixes are extra words put at the end of a sentence. For example......

If you don't have access ask me to give you access.
