Hurumanu/reading activity - Kate Sheppard and the Women's Suffrage

Over the past few weeks we have been working on an activity, and that activity is identifying and describing Kate Sheppard and the Women's suffrage. I suppose my work was pretty good, here it is.

Kate Sheppard was born in Liverpool, ENG.

I think Kate was put on the $10 note because she fought gallantly for women’s rights to vote.

WCTU stands for Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

Four actions Kate took in her quest to fight for women’s right were:

  1. She joined the WCTU club.

  2. She tirelessly wrote pamphlets every day she could.

  3. She organized meetings and lectures.

She presented a series of petitions to parliament.

True or False:

Kate Sheppard was born in 1847. TRUE.

Aussie was the first country to let women vote. FALSE.

Nearly 32k people signed the petition for women to vote. TRUE.

Kate Sheppard is on the $20 note. FALSE.

Summarise the article in your own words.

Kate Sheppard was born in Liverpool, England on 10th March, 1847.

She grew up in Scotland ENG, then moved to New Zealand.

She married Walter Sheppard (1835 - 1915, married 1871 - death) at the age of 24.

She started to fight for women’s rights to vote, by writing pamphlets and getting people to sign the petition.

Even the prime minister at the time was behind her for the petition!

However, when the bill needed the governor’s signature, but there was a problem.

The governor, David Boyle, did not support women’s suffrage and was slow to sign the petition.

However he reluctantly agreed to sign it on September 19th, 1893. And it was final.

Afterwards, Sheppard was a hero in the world.

She received large amounts of support and letters every year.

Then after she hit the age of 65, she became less active and didn’t do much.

She later died of natural causes at the age of 86 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In 1993, a century after women were allowed to vote, a memorial in memory of her was put in place on the Avon River.

It was officially unveiled in 2005.

If you don't think it's good well then you're probably right. IN YOUR OWN MIND YOU ARE. Opinions buddy, opinions.

mid-term art reflection

Hello readers, my name is Tyler Redmond and here is my mid term art reflection. I hope you ENJOY!

1.This term in art we have been doing a lot of stuff in art. Here's just a mid term reflecc. (reflection in meme language) Oh also I will be doing a recap on what we did when I get to the chapter.

2. Flip books - I did a flip book about a man who witnesses a tornado. He captures it all on camera and gets so excited that he explodes..

3 . Scenario choice - Me and my group (Kamen Rogers and Bryce Clemett) made a google drawing/story called ALIEN story. Yes, you heard it. The story is about an army of aliens who were fake but they were releasing bad worms into people's brains and making them see aliens.

4.  Character development - this ugly booger thing. A person in our group found an SCP and put it here. I still think it's an ugly booger.

5. Ideas I have for scenery - mountains I guess.. I can't really think of anything else. MOUNTAINS IT IS! I plan to put in some sun too, and maybe a road. Kind of like the highway into Radiator Springs in Cars, but just a single road.

6. Pinching out a figure - I learnt that clay is not as easy to build with as I first thought. The clay was apparently heavily used and recycled, so it was close to solid and also close to impossible to pinch out a figure. I ended out pinching a head.

Thanks for reading this blog, time to go waste my life on better things..I guess

    themed bells a u t h e n t i c s

HELLO READERS! This blog is about themed bells and NZ Music Month. Today I will be explaining the current bell, which is Six60 - All She Wrote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNQO2DEplRw

The song is about.. life, I guess.

The members of the band are Matiu Walters, Chris Mac, Ji Fraser, Marlon Gerbes, Eli Paewai and Hoani Matenga.

The band formed in Dunedin in 2006.

I think that the themed bells idea for the bells is pretty cool. Though some of the bells are pretty irritating...

    and that's all i guess bye :P

    safety in da lab

     1. Liquids do not go into the bins, because they could stick to the material in the bin, then when they would be emptied into the trash and sent to landfill, they would seriously pollute the landfill.

    2. Solids do not go down the sink because they will poison all the water ways, and if someone drinks it, there is a high chance they will die.

    3. Wear safety glasses when you do experiments,

because something could squirt into your eyes and it wouldn't be very nice.

    4. Put your chair under the desk, and stand at the bench

when you do experiments, because if you have your chair out, if something goes wrong, it would leak onto your seat.

    5. Bags do not go on the desks, because if something leaks, it could go in your bag.

    6. Long hair should be tied back, because you can dip your hair in something and you could either have hair loss or your hair could light on fire.

    7. Do not smell the chemicals, because you could pass out and some could even melt the membranes of your nose.

    8. Walk, don’t run around the room, because you could trip over and sprain, dislocate, or break a bone,

    9. Do not eat or drink in the lab, because you could poison yourself by touching other chemicals and the food.

    term 1 reflection

Term one was pretty fun for a first term in high school. I had some good moments, and some bad moments where I wish I could just go home. "But that's another story."- Swiss001

For subjects I had sewing, Maori, drama, Hurumanu, and Wananga. (obviously) My favourite class out of those is Wananga. Last term we made a tree to put on our wall, made a class treaty, introduced well being time and more.

Something challenging about term 1 was sewing. It is super hard since you need to know what everything is, and my family just carries some sort of gene that makes us all horrible at it. I have no idea why.

I would like to set 3 goals for this term and they are: 1. Get 5 or more full carr cards. 2. Meet some more people. 3. Get work done a bit faster.
