Business and Enterprise T4 Blog

Hello readers, welcome back to my blog.

This term we did Business and Enterprise and I am going to describe most of it today.

Me, Bryce and Kamen's business name was The Brightwork and we supplied painted rocks.

The process of painting the rocks was very painful and we got into lots of arguments.

I did enjoy being able to paint whatever I wanted on the rocks.

The challenges were having enough paint to do everything.

Market day went fine, I enjoyed having money to be able to go buy stuff, especially the fizzy drinks from a certain group.

I showed I was using the school CARR values by never giving up when times were difficult, agreeing to disagreeing, and respecting all my customers.

Science T4 - Ginger Beer

 Aim:

I want to find out how to brew ginger beer.

Research:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjifwNexix0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoWVQxuYv4Y

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsQNmXVIxQk

Method:

Equipment

  • ginger
  • disposable cup
  • water
  • teaspoon and tablespoon
  • lemon juice
  • yeast
  • sugar
Instructions
  1. Get your equipment.
  2. Put your name on a disposable cup, preferrably plastic.
  3. Put half a teaspoon of ginger into the cup.
  4. Add half a cup of water into the cup.
  5. Add one tablespoon of sugar into the cup.
  6. Mix with a spoon.
  7. Add 5 drops of lemon juice to the cup.
  8. Taste it and adjust the flavour to perfection.
  9. Add 1/4 of a teaspoon of yeast.
  10. Let it brew for a week.

Results:

When I added the ginger to the lemon juice, it sort of looked like diarrhoea. When you mix it, it does not lose its brownish color but most of the ginger dissipated. When you add the yeast, the yeast will not dissipate easily.

TASTE TEST:

It was absolutely horrible and I have nothing more to say about it.

Discussion:

The yeast (micro organism), a living thing, is going to try to "eat" the sugar and when it does, it will release a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2), and effectively, it is going to excrete (poop) out some Alcohol. CO2 is the same thing humans breathe. This process is called Fermentation. This is the same thing that happens while making bread. When the yeast excretes, it will form bubbles on the bread from the CO2. This full process is called Respiration.

The best conditions for brewing ginger beer is in a warm place and let it sit for approximately a week. The optimal temperature for proper ginger beer brewing is 21-29 degrees celsius.
